Artist Name:

Kardian Williams

Description of Artwork:

I have always thought of art as a celebration of life. The good, the bad, and of course the ugly experiences. They all have a certain beauty within them. That is why my focus is always on people. prefer to create drawings based on unscripted moments of life. However, I still show people modeling sometimes because they are simply trying to look their best, and that should never be looked down upon; they are still people being themselves at that moment. I prefer for there to be texture in my work, whether you can feel it or just see it. I do this because everything has some sort of texture,
whether it is smooth or scratchy or even sticky, it is real. Whether this is the texture of the subject's skin or their messy hair. I love to add dramatic lighting; the dark and light components create the feel of each piece. I leave barely any empty areas and typically fill my negative space with marks that
create texture within each piece.

The subjects of my art are most often women, young or old. This is because I can relate to them, the look in their eyes or the expression on their lips. I frequently choose more innocent or curious or even joyful girls. This is because, too often today, many people focus on the bad moments. This is also why, when I do use color, I use brighter more youthful colors. When drawing I
tend to lean more on the realistic side because as a child who had never had art classes, I was praised for doing artistic things so well. With an appreciation still for creating freshly photographed-looking subjects, I continue to do this. However, now I add in bolder touches that either will make it a bit more messy or unique, because people are not perfect, and I want to convey that most of all.
