Artist Name:

Meghan Bias

Description of Artwork:

I try to convey a raw and honest depiction of my experiences through various mediums that tell stories while remaining cohesive. Although I mainly work in acrylics on canvas, I have been exploring mixed media sculpture and found object art in recent years. My work is truly an expression of my inner world and a telling of my stories.

Artist Biography:

As far back as I can remember art has played a significant role in my life. Museums have long been my churches and the artists my saints. Art in all its forms has the beautiful ability to tell stories that words cannot capture. From this love and connection, I pursued my education focusing on art. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Art History from Sul Ross State University and a Master of Arts in Museum Science and Art History from Texas Tech University.

Through my artwork, I have found a safe place to expose the deep dark corners of my past and my mind. Sharing my story through art creates a vulnerable space where being uncomfortable becomes comfortable. In this space, I become brave and seen. My traumas and experiences are brought to light and given a platform for healing. I would never assume to tell any other story but my own, but in that, I hope my expression connects with others who can relate to my pain and passion.
As a woman who has survived trauma, I have found that I am able to speak my truth through my work. These experiences have seeped into my psyche and made lies into truths that I believed. One of the more dangerous lies was that my value is attached to my appearance and role as a woman. Most of my life I fell in line with this idea and punished myself for not measuring up. I feel that this lie is so widely accepted as truth and so many fall prey to its deception.

I believe that expression through any medium of art provides a much-needed human connection and forum to discuss difficult topics. Art crosses so many boundaries that divide us and I hope that my work reaches anyone who might find solidarity in my expression. You are not alone; we are all on a journey.
